On BSE, total number of shares traded was 28.41 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs 3,313.9 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded were 79.75 Crore and total turnover was Rs 16,452.1 Crore.
The FIIs on Tuesday stood as net buyer in equity and net seller in debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs 3,167.0 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs 72.1 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs 2,738.8 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs 301.5 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs 428.3 Crore and Rs (229.5) Crore respectively.
Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty – JP Asso with total traded volume of 17,179,519, followed by Suzlon Energy with 14,513,661, Sterlite Ind with 14,477,614, Power Grid Corp with 11,986,031 and Hindalco with 11,947,821.
On NSE Future and Option , total number of contracts traded in index futures was 999006 with a total turnover of Rs 26,947.99 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1572563 with a total turnover of Rs 41,125.66 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 4849111 with a total turnover of Rs 138,856.09 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 149420 and notional turnover was Rs 4,409.14 Crore.
Today, Nifty would have a support at 5,542 and resistance at 5,630 and BSE Sensex has support at 18,462 and resistance at 18,767.

On the global markets front, almost majority of the indices in Asia ended on a positive note. The Shanghai Composite, Nikkei 225, Taiwan Weighted, Jakarta Composite and Seoul Composite inclined by 1.47% at 2,748.69, 0.74% at 10,478.66, 0.52% at 9,102.33, 0.37% at 3,514.62 and 0.22% at 2,115.01 respectively.
European markets, which opened after the Indian stock market trading is positive. Key benchmark indices like – CAC 40 was trading higher by 0.04% at 4,050.7 and in Frankfurt, DAX index was trading up by 0.4% at 7,156.42 and FTSE 100 inclined by 0.25% at 5,984.24.
The BSE Realty was at 2,398.56 down by 88.72 points or by (3.57%). The main losers were DLF (5.42%), Unitech (4.81%), Anant raj Inds (4.03%), Sobha Dev (3.96%) and HDIL (3.36%).
The BSE HC index was at 6,283.2 down by 168.08 points or by (2.61%). The main losers were Lupin (5.25%), Ranbaxy Lab (3.89%), Opto Circuits (3.55%), Biocon (3.34%) and Sun Pharma (2.95%).
On the corporate front, NHPC lost 3.37% at Rs. 25.8 after it reported a fall in net profit by 48.30% to Rs. 300.67 crore on 35.25% decline in total income to Rs. 917.20 crore in Q3 December 2010 over Q3 December 2009.
